Description:

North Central Africa, Chad or Cameroon, Sao / Kotoko culture, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A brass statue known as a "Putchu Guinadji" featuring riders on horseback cast via the lost wax method, used for healing and protection. Statues of horse riders are popular amongst the Kotoko, symbolizing warriors going to battle demons or other evils on behalf of the owner, usually these statues were prescribed to cure mental illness and held against the body or rubbed by the afflicted. Size: 2.2" L x 0.75" W x 2.25" H (5.6 cm x 1.9 cm x 5.7 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
