Description:

Jim Shores (American, b. 1952). "Angel," ca. 2000 CE. An abstract figure composed of a bass door knob head, an iron machinery piece, and mounted on a metal base, this sculpture evokes both angelic and scarecrow-like qualities. The piece is further enhanced with brass wires intricately threaded and wrapped around the panel. The knob is signed on the verso: "Jim Shores - 2000." Jim Shores is a self-taught American artist renowned for his sculptural works made from salvaged and repurposed materials. Since committing to full-time art in 1996, he has become a prominent figure in the folk / outsider art movement, exhibiting at numerous folk art festivals and galleries. His work is held in the permanent collections of major institutions, including the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA), the Polk Museum of Art (Lakeland, FL), and the House of Blues (Orlando, FL). Shores is known for giving his pieces playful titles that reflect both the materials used and the essence of the object, enjoying the creative wordplay that adds another layer of meaning to his work.
