Description:

Native American, Southwestern USA, Colorado or New Mexico, Anasazi/Ancestral Puebloans, ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A lovely handmade pottery jar exhibiting a circular base that dramatically widens to a bulbous body and a slanted shoulder topped with a short narrow cylindrical neck and flared rim flanked by two loop handles sprouting outward and upward from the shoulder. A beautifully painted black geometric motif of maze-like triangles adorns the white painted exterior of this vessel, perhaps representing the passage of time. Formed via hand coiling, smoothing, and baking, this type of jar would have been used for carrying water, with a narrow neck to prevent evaporation and allow a plug. A mesmerizing piece of Anasazi culture. Size: 5.375" W x 5.375" H (13.7 cm x 13.7 cm)
