Description:

Mesa Verde, Colorado, Southwest US, ca. 1100-1300 CE. This bowl, expertly created by the Anasazi artisans of Mesa Verde was found at the Bug Point Site on the Deloris River in Southwestern Colorado. This example is particularly striking for its star burst black on white design of diagonally set rectangles swirling toward the bottom of the bowl. These slanted rectangles symbolize lightning. Indeed the Anasazi worshiped spiritual figures representing many forces of nature. Rain, of course, was particularly significant as it was necessary to bring about rich harvests for the Ancient Puebloans. 7"D x 3.75"H Small two inch section at rim restored, small chip on rim, and hairline pressure crack on wall as shown, otherwise near choice.
