Description:

Native American, southwest New Mexico, villages in southern Cibola Anasazi / northern Mogollon, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) culture, ca. 1075 to 1250 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery olla displaying wondrous black-on-white decorations. The body is spherical in form and resolves in a cylindrical neck with a thick rim. The surface of the body is decorated with a mesmerizing program of linear, triangular, and stepped motifs, and the neck is embellished with additional step-filled panels. The interior of the vessel is unpainted, and the underside is solid white. A fabulous example created by the Mogollon Indians of the early Anasazi who occupied the Tularosa region. Size: 5.75" W x 5.75" H (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm).

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces with light resurfacing, overpainting, and adhesive residue along break lines. Minor chips to rim and body, with fading to areas of original pigmentation. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory number written in black ink beneath base.
