Description:

Native American, Southwestern US, Anasazi (Ancient Puebloan) culture, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A beautiful snowflake black-on-white ceramic bowl. The interior is painted with a repeated series of checkered boxes set inside black triangles that descend from the rim to just above the rounded base. To the modern eye, they closely resemble crossword puzzles! To their original artist, they were probably representative of human figures in cloaks or possibly insects. The artists responsible for creating pottery vessels like this were women, and many women have been found in burials accompanied by pottery making tools. Size: 5.5" W x 3.5" H (14 cm x 8.9 cm)
