Description:

Native American, North America, Arizona-New Mexico border, Wingate Anasazi culture, ca. 1050-1200 CE. Beyond the skillfully, handbuilt form achieved via coiling-and-scraping technique, the decorative program of this piece is most impressive. The designs for this White Mountain redware type are comprised of interlocking solid and hatched elements, created with organic paint on a dark red slip. This is characteristic of Wingate Black-on-Red of the Late Pueblo II/Early Pueblo III periods. Note the rich variety of geometric motifs - both linear and curvilinear - as well as the varying widths of lines. 10"D at widest point x 4-1/2"H
