Description:

Native American, US Southwest, southern Colorado Plateau (Four Corners region), Ancestral Pueblo/Anasazi, ca. 1030 to 1175 CE. A lovely Wingate Black-on-Red bowl, covered entirely by a red slip with abstract geometric motifs delineated in black on the interior. Four large, wave-like swirls dominate the piece, each separated by stepped pyramid forms that project downward from just below the rim and upward from a ring around the center. The center is left without motif, creating a pleasing orb surrounded by the intricate decorative program. The exterior, meanwhile, features white-on-red decoration in the form of interlocking steps. Size: 8.9" W x 4.25" H (22.6 cm x 10.8 cm)
