Description:

Arctic New World, Alaska, ancient Alaskan Native people, ca. 500 to 1500 CE. A large fossilized piece of walrus tusk used as a digging tool, very similar to one found in the Norton tradition at the site of Iyatayet in modern day Norton Sound, Alaska. This culture hunted caribou and fished for subsistence. Carvings were their main artistic output. Size: 2.1" W x 7" H (5.3 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
