Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Beringian / Old Bering Sea Culture, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. An incredible piece of ancient walrus ivory, hand-carved into a long and slender bowl. The interior is hollowed out and the bottom is rounded but polished to create a stable base. The profile is gently curved, using the natural contours of the tusk. The tip of one end is deliberately pierced, perhaps for suspension. Size: 10.5" L x 2.125" W x 1.5" H (26.7 cm x 5.4 cm x 3.8 cm)
