Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, St. Lawrence Island, Yupik people, Thule Period, ca. 1200 to 1700 CE. A petite receptacle bowl used for a tobacco pipe, hand-carved from walrus or whale bone. The bowl has a funnel-shaped receptacle surrounded by a wide rim, a tapered lower body, and slender rectangular attachment tabs along the base. Bowls like this example were attached to larger wooden pipes and could be easily removed for cleaning or attaching to a new pipe. Size: 1.125" W x 0.8" H (2.9 cm x 2 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.
