Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolia, ca. 2800 to 2200 BCE. This is a kilia head made from grey-white marble. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. They are characterized by bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. When first made, the faces would have had painted details like eyes. Archaeologists have interpreted these figures as female and call them "stargazers" because their heads are tilted upwards. Comes with custom stand. Size: 0.9" L x 1.05" W x 0.9" H (2.3 cm x 2.7 cm x 2.3 cm); height on stand: 1.9" (4.8 cm).
