Lot 100
**Originally Listed At $200**
East Asia, China & Japan, ca. 5th century BCE to 19th century CE. A collection of 3 brass and bronze sculptures including both religious and decorative objects. A bronze peacock - finely cast with remarkable attention to detail, this sculpture features individually striated feathers and coppery pigment accenting the eyes of the outer tail feathers, the tips of the wings, the bill, and the crest. Possibly a Japanese Edo or Meiji era incense burner, with a hole on its back and sooty remains across the surface. A leopard (or tiger) hollow-cast in tinned bronze with incised floral motifs. The face bears stylistic elements reminiscent of the Warring States or Han Dynasty periods. Given the flat base and casting technique, it may have once been affixed to a larger object, such as a vessel. A standing brass deity or bodhisattva figure from the Tang era, depicted in serene posture atop a four-footed pedestal. Size of peacock: 5" W x 8.75" H (12.7 cm x 22.2 cm)
Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s
