Description:

China, Warring States Period, 475 to 221 BCE. This is a beautiful example of a spearhead with remarkable heft and a beautiful multi-faceted patina. The patina even has fibers embedded in it, indicating that it developed -- almost certainly as a grave good for a high ranking nobleman -- whilst the spearhead laid next to a wooden object in the grave. The shape is excellent, with a prominent blood ridge and a wide socket; the blade edge still retains some sharpness. As the name suggests, this spearhead was made during a time of great flux in Chinese society, when kingdoms and warlords traded land constantly, and finely made weapons such as this one were a sign of great prestige. Size: 9.6" L x 1.75" W (24.4 cm x 4.4 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
