Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A stunning carved alabaster jar, naturally adorned in a pearlescent shade of cream with white striations and accented with hues of brown, peach, and maroon. The lovely vessel presents with a circular base and bulbous body that curves inward to a brief cylindrical neck topped with a broad flat flared rim. Alabaster vessels have been found in high status tombs from Bactria. For example, in the ancient city of Ai Khanum, at the confluence of the rivers Kokcha and Oxus in modern day Afghanistan, several alabaster vessels were found in the tomb of Kineas, the founder of the city. A remarkably well preserved example from Egyptian culture! Size: 5.75" in diameter x 5.25" H (14.6 cm x 13.3 cm)
