Egypt, New Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, 18th to 26th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. A beautiful and wearable necklace featuring a black stone scarab strung with ancient gold, faience, and black glass beads on a modern wire with a lobster clasp. The gold beads range from 63% to 86% (equivalent to 15K+ to 20K+) and are symmetrically arranged with the other "mummy" beads with black stone scarab as the focal point. The underside is engraved with a geometric motif, and scarabs with decorative compositions of repeating patterns. Scarabs, faience, and gold beads such as these were used extensively in ancient Egyptian burial practices, and often attached to the wrappings of a mummy, providing protection and symbolic decoration. Size of strand: 17" L (43.2 cm); scarab: 0.60" L x 0.45" W (1.5 cm x 1.1 cm)
