Description:

Ancient Mediterranean or Near Eastern, Greco-Roman, ca. 5th century BCE to 4th century CE. A small but striking silver amulet featuring the head of a bull or ram, cast in high-grade silver (87-91% purity). The animal's features a tapered snout and subtly curled horns, and an integrated loop atop the head is curled forward as a suspension loop. The forehead and loop have faint incised markings. A separate cast ring with curled terminal tips is threaded through the loop for suspension perhaps as a pendant. Revered across ancient cultures from Greece to the Near East, bull and ram imagery was associated with virility, vitality, and divine protection. This compact amulet would have functioned as a potent personal talisman - imbued with strength and safeguarding energies. Size: 1.3" L x 0.5" W (3.3 cm x 1.3 cm); silver quality: 87% to 91%; weight: 5.1 grams
