Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Puebloan / Puebloan, ca. 1000 to 1800s CE. A traditional slab-style metate (broken in half) paired with a mano, an essential toolset for ancient grinding and food preparation. The metate was likely once a large, ovoid tray with a shallow central depression, shaped by countless hours of grinding with a mano. The mano is thick and ovoid, with one smooth side worn from gripping and the other pitted from extensive use. Its worn, indented surface indicates prolonged grinding. Metates function similarly to mortars and pestles, serving both for food preparation, such as grinding corn, and for utilitarian tasks like pulverizing clay or pigments. Size of metate: 6" L x 6" W x 2.25" H (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm x 5.7 cm)
