Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Near East or Egypt, Possibly Mesopotamian, ca. early 1st millennium BCE or later. A group of three small cast metal animals, including two in bronze and one in copper, each with a stylized, abstract form. Though housed in an acrylic case labeled "Jericho 800 BCE", the precise origin and dating remain uncertain. Their compact forms and verdigris patina are broadly consistent with votive or amuletic objects from the ancient Near East or Egypt. The smallest figure, cast in copper, depicts a crouching frog - whose form recalls votive figures associated with the Egyptian fertility goddess Heqet. The other two animals, rendered in heavier leaded bronze, appear to represent a bull and a lion respectively - both animals deeply symbolic in Mesopotamian and Levantine religious iconography. Size of lion. : 1.8" L x 0.6" W x 1.25" H (4.6 cm x 1.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
