Pre-Columbian, likely Peru, Chimu-Inca culture, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A striking set of ancient adornments featuring a pendant and necklace of spondylus shell beads and panels, strung in modern times for presentation. The necklace alternates between small discoidal beads and larger rectangular shell plaques, showcasing the prized orange-red hues of the sacred spondylus shell, a material deeply valued in Andean ritual and elite regalia. Accompanying the necklace is a large pendant with an enigmatic human face, carved from shell or possibly stone, now mounted in a modern silver bezel setting for wear or display. Mounted on a velvet backing in an acrylic case and ready to display. Size of case: 10.5" L x 2" W x 10.5" H (26.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 26.7 cm); face pendant: 3.5" L x 2" W (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm)

  • Condition: Not examined outside of case, and backing is wedged tightly into the acrylic cover making it hard to remove. Face has some gouges and abrasions throughout. Mounted in a modern formfitting bezel. Shell beads have chips and pitting and strung in modern times. Both are mounted on a velvet backing in an acrylic case and ready to display.
