Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, ca. 100 to 1500 CE. A necklace composed of ancient turquoise, chrysocolla, black stones, and pottery beads arranged in a balanced, elongated strand that tapers toward a stacked bead drop at the center, secured with a metal hook clasp at the back. Fully wearable! Beads made from stone and other materials were widely used in personal adornment and were frequently placed in funerary contexts as offerings or markers of identity, status, and spiritual belief. Materials such as turquoise and chrysocolla were especially valued for their vivid color and symbolic associations with water, fertility, and protection, and these stones often traveled through long-distance exchange networks. Size of strand: 29" L (73.7 cm); largest bead: 0.6" W (1.5 cm)
