Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Phoenicia, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A pendant composed of a pale, carved stone face with a dramatic applied blue glass coiffure, pale green glass earring, and a blue glass loop to allow the entire creation to be worn. The delicacy of the carving and glass work attests to the remarkable skill of the ancient artisan who made this piece. Size: 0.6" W x 0.95" H (1.5 cm x 2.4 cm); 1.55" H (3.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Neil Phillips collection, New York, USA, acquired in 1980's

  • Condition: A small area of the coiffure may be lost, but it is difficult to tell. Otherwise in good condition with some tiny pits on the surface of the face and light deposits on the glass. Faint rainbow iridescence on the glass.
