Rome, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A beautiful pair of high (22+) karat gold earrings of an elegant form comprised of hammered gold sheet of a lunar form. The crescent moon is associated with Luna, the divine embodiment of the moon usually depicted in Roman art paired with the Sun and driving a four-horse chariot known as a quadriga. Lunar motifs are also linked with the Roman goddesses Diana and Juno. Weight: .8 grams Size: .75" L x .5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm)
