Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Near East, Persia / Egypt, Islamic period, ca. 9th to 10th century CE. A collection of three ancient glass bottles, each of near-miniature size. The first, mounted on a wooden base, dates to the Roman Imperial era. It features a pale aqua hue with a long neck and was likely used to hold cosmetics or scented oils for a woman's toilette. The next largest is a thick Islamic "molar" vessel, named for similar examples with pointed feet that resemble teeth. This bottle was made from a molded rectangular block of glass (the mold-pouring technique, rather than blowing, accounts for its thick walls) and wheel-cut to achieve its distinctive shape; the narrow interior was often filled with cosmetics such as kohl, unguents, or perfumes. The final item is a tiny vial fragment made from thicker glass with cut lines, suggesting medieval Islamic era origin as well. Size smallest: 0.45" W x 1.5" H (1.1 cm x 3.8 cm); largest: 1" W x 2.75" H (2.5 cm x 7 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.
