Description:

East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful and elegant leaded-bronze urn with Shang Dynasty (1600 to 1046 BCE) elements! The vessel stands on a flared foot with a squat, globular body. A dramatic neck and wide rim flare upwards, decorated with low relief motifs within spear-shaped borders. The spear shapes extend from the band around the shoulder. Twin handles, with the heads of a dragon, are situated at the shoulder, and tongues extend from the dragon's mouths and curve upward to form the handle. In the early 20th century, fabulous discoveries of Shang period tombs led to national pride in the Chinese past and sparked the creation of vases and urns such as this spectacular example! Size: 12" W x 13.375" H (30.5 cm x 34 cm)
