Description:

France/European Continent, ca. 1900 CE. This is a nearly pristine plaster model of the right hemisphere of a brain with realistically painted details; the cutaway nature of the model provides a view of the interior of the brain. When this was made, around the turn of the 20th century, very little truly scientific was known about the brain and phrenology reigned as the leading theory about how it worked. Today, we theorize that the right hemisphere of the brain is responsible for our creative sides: rhythm, daydreaming, color, and imagination. Plaster models like these revolutionized biological teaching by allowing students at all level to see inside the body without needing to dissect an actual corpse. This brain comes mounted on a stand. Size with stand: 7-1/2"H x 6-3/4"L x 3-1/2"W (19 cm x 17 cm x 9 cm).
