Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A lovely red-figure skyphos, with a dual-handled, deep cup and a delicate foot. On each side, the vase painter depicted a central figure standing between sprays of olive leaves against a field of lustrous black glaze. On one side there is a woman holding a musical instrument; on the other is a hippocamp in flight. This type of skyphos was extremely popular for several centuries, initially exported from Athens throughout the Greek world, including into Italy. Size: 6" W x 3.1" H (15.2 cm x 7.9 cm)
