Description:

Archaic Greece, ca. 700 to 600 BCE. The features of this bull head are clear and easy to see. The piece comes with a custom stand. As in many other cultures of a similar age, bulls were symbols of power and wealth with strong religious connections in Archaic Greece. A small statue like this would likely have graced the home of a non-elite citizen. Size: The bull head itself is 1 1/2" deep, 2 1/2" wide at the widest point, and 2 1/4" tall. With the custom stand it is 4" tall. Provenance: Ex-private New York, New York collection; ex-private Wagner collection, Cape Cod, MA, acquired in 1960's. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.#109061

  • Condition: The bull head would have been attached to something else. The head has been worn and has a green patina, but the features are still clear. The horns may have been made of another material and are now either worn down or missing.
