South America, Argentina, Campo del Cielo, ca. 1576 CE (impact ca. 4000-5000 years ago). A group of three iron meteorite specimens from the renowned Campo del Cielo ("Field of Heaven"), and a pendant containing a meteorite fragment. The pendant contains a rectangular piece protected by a convex piece of clear lucite in a nickel brass bezel setting and is wearable. These specimens are fragments of a massive meteoritic body that impacted Earth , present day Argentina, roughly 4,000 to 5,000 years ago - material that originally formed during the birth of the solar system some 4.5 billion years ago. The 3 specimens feature the distinctive irregular, sculptural texture typical of meteoritic iron. Size of pendant: 1.75" L x 1" W (4.4 cm x 2.5 cm); largest fragment: 0.7" L x 0.5" W (1.8 cm x 1.3 cm); total combined weights: 26.2 grams

  • Condition: Pendant has a small chip to the lucite covering the inlay, but otherwise intact and wearable. Fragments are stable, with naturally irregular surfaces and fusion textures characteristic of meteoritic iron.
