Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Aztec Empire, ca. 1300 to 1521 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery cup covered with an orange slip and black decorative motifs. The vessel rests on a wide and follow pedestal foot, and the body’s walls gently swell out and upward to a thin lip. The exterior is painted with registers of spiraling and circular motifs. This petite piece may have been used for drinking a special beverage made from cacao beans, reserved only for nobility. Size: 2.625" W x 2.375" H (6.7 cm x 6 cm)
