Description:

Pre-Columbian, Aztec culture, ca 1300 - 1521 CE. Measures approximately 7-1/4" tall and weighs nearly 2 pounds. Despite the heavy weathering, this stone figure exhibits discernable features indicative of depictions of Ehecatl, particularly based on the features around the mouth. It is made from a relatively porous, reddish-pink volcanic stone, which was commonly used on Aztec deity figures in more mundane, commonplace shrine and offering contexts, which were widespread and prolific in Aztec territories. Provenance: Former CA, USA collection. All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Intact with pitting, weathering, wear, abrasions, chipping and minor loss overall from hundreds of years of exposure to the elements. Faint remnants of white accent decoration remain here and there. The surface exhibits a dark, rich patina overall, even in areas of loss, implying the chipping and loss is ancient.
