Description:

Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC) (Oxus Civilization), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. An incredible deep blue lapis lazuli stamp seal in the form of a ram's head. The stamp, in turn, is also in the form of a ram's head, clearly and deeply incised in profile into the round neck of the animal. The seal is pierced laterally for suspension behind the animal's curved horns. The stone is a gorgeous color, and the details are carved with a sure hand to create eyes, horns, nostrils, and mouth. The power and virility of the spiral-horned ram was symbolic of power and masculinity. Size: 1.5" W x 1" H (3.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
