Description:

Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC) (Oxus Civilization), Bronze Age, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A idol figure hand-carved from a dark gray stone, the surface incised with triangular and linear motifs that resemble a patterned robe known as a kaunakes. The body is depicted in an abstract lobed form with phytomorphic forms incised across the surfaces, and a hand-carved marble head sits atop the recessed neck cavity. Most excavated examples of this figure type come from sites in Margiana in southern Turkmenistan, a possible center of their production. Size (w/ head): 1.06" L x 3.4" W x 2.69" H (2.7 cm x 8.6 cm x 6.8 cm)
