Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An incredibly well-preserved example of a textile panel composed of loosely woven, lace-like cotton fibers that form intricate diamond patterns across the surface. The corners of each diamond are attached to those of the neighboring shapes and contain within them heart-shaped patterns with three interior circles each. The panel is formed by attaching two identical panels down the central seam and reinforcing the exterior peripheries with additional thread. Mounted atop a blue backing that is stretched over a wooden display frame. Size (textile): 29.875" W x 40" H (75.9 cm x 101.6 cm); (frame): 38.875" W x 52.9" H (98.7 cm x 134.4 cm)
