Description:

Ancient Near East, Levant, Canaanite, ca. 14th to 13th century BCE. A rare and powerful copper figurine depicting a bearded male figure with an elongated conical headdress, mounted astride a bull. The rider sits upright, his arms raised in a commanding gesture, while the bull, rendered with stocky legs and pointed horns, conveys strength and virility. The combination of man and bull reflects the importance of fertility, power, and divine authority in Canaanite religion. The bull itself was a widespread Near Eastern symbol of strength and cosmic order, often associated with Baal, the storm god, whose cult was prominent across Canaan during the Late Bronze Age. The tall headdress and beard mark the rider as a figure of status - perhaps a ruler, priest, or deity - bridging human and divine realms. This piece, though modest in scale, embodies the enduring symbolism of authority, fertility, and protection within Canaanite culture. Size: 1.5" L x 0.8" W x 2.1" H (3.8 cm x 2 cm x 5.3 cm)
