Africa, Burkina Faso, Bwa / Bobo peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden mask depicting an abstract zoomorphic creature, perhaps a bird given the size of the beak. Above the sizable head is a created plume decorated with carved triangular motifs while below is a large set of circular eyes. Masks like this example are intended to represent fantastical creatures that are believed to be invisible to the naked eye. Size: 9" L x 6.1" W x 27.5" H (22.9 cm x 15.5 cm x 69.8 cm)
