Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes (Paquime), ca. 14th century CE.. A buff earthenware effigy jar modeled in the form of a human head, with a projecting nose, lidded eyes, and ears, the wide circular opening serving as the gaping mouth. Sets of perforations below the rim and nostrils likely for suspension secring a lid, and the pierced ears may have contained additional dangling ornaments. The exterior is decorated with geometric registers of nested chevrons, stepped diamonds, and linear borders in oxidized red pigment consistent with Ramos Polychrome, the hallmark ceramic tradition of Paquime. Size: 7" W x 3.5" H x 5.5" D (17.8 cm W x 8.9 cm H x 14.0 cm D).

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
