Native American, Casas Grandes- Paquime, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An exquisite example of Casas Grandes pottery, skillfully handbuilt via the coil and scrape method and decorated with a fine painting technique presenting abstract opposing paw-like motifs in stylized geometric manner, delineated in a polychrome palette of red and black against a beige ground. The walls are remarkably thin and smooth both on the interior and exterior. The Casas Grandes culture acted as an intermediary between Central American peoples and the Mogollon and Hohokam peoples of the north. The aesthetic and cultural influence reached from central New Mexico in the north to central Chihuahua in the south. Casas Grandes is admired for its impressive pottery.   • Condition: Repaired from two pieces, with a short stabilized hairline fracture on the rim. There is no restoration or overpaint. Aside from that, in nice condition with motifs lightly worn but still clear and light deposits on the surface.
