Description:

New World, Native American, found in western Pennsylvania, close to West Virginia, Middle Woodland Culture, ca. 100 BCE to 400 CE. A beautifully knapped, curved blade with a simple, short tang that would have allowed mounting to a handle made from organic materials. The blade is made of white, faintly translucent novaculite, a hard, dense rock resembling chert, with a high quartz content. Curved blades of this style seem to have been used ceremonially rather than for practical tasks. Size: 6.5" L x 1.5" W (16.5 cm x 3.8 cm)
