Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A remarkable pottery jar of rotund form with an ovoid body flanked by a pair of vertical, ribbon-form handles and a corseted spout with twin lug handles. Enveloped in creamy beige slip, the vessel is adorned with elaborate, black-painted decoration of checkered, linear, and dotted designs, asl well as a pair of relief monkeys above each handle. Size: 12.2" L x 10.7" Diameter (31 cm x 27.2 cm)
Provenance: private Cape Coral, Florida, USA collection; ex-private Allison collection, Washington, USA, inherited in the mid-70's

- Condition: Rounded base inhibits vessel from standing up independent of support. Chipping to rim and perforation below neck, as well as surface wear as shown, but otherwise mostly intact and excellent with liberal remaining pigments and rich earthen deposits to surface.
