Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A small bichrome terracotta bowl with a rounded base, smooth walls, a shallow interior cavity, and a thin rim. The exterior is unadorned, however the interior displays a wonderful array of black-hued designs. The center of the bowl depicts a standing figure with a large head, extended arms, and an elaborate headdress. The upper register inside the rim displays a decorative program of sawtooth-shaped triangular motifs in close proximity to one another, each with a circular "eye" in the center; underneath is a solid circular band with tendril-like protrusions. A lovely and finely-decorated vessel! Size: 4.625" W (11.7 cm).
