Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An intriguing doll with a body comprised of woven reed strands as well as a head and tunic formed from tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of beige, fuchsia, coffee, cream, and espresso. The interior body is defined with a flat chest, slender legs, attenuated arms, and fingers/toes wrapped with salmon-pink thread. The top exhibits a mask-like head with concentric diamond eyes, a sewn nose bridge, downward-slanted lips, and dozens of twisted hair locks draped behind. A fabulous example of a rare style from the ancient Chancay! Size: 6.625" W x 9.5" H (16.8 cm x 24.1 cm)
