Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A polychrome terracotta vessel with a refined form comprised of a globular body, corsetted shoulders and a splayed neck that resolves to a wide rim with two looped handles bridging the neck to the body. The piece was skillfully handbuilt and boasts nice thin walls. The painting in hues of chocolate brown, white, and red also demonstrates expert technique with repeated textile-inspired patterns in dark brown over white slip on the body and intricate geometrics on the handles. Size: 8-1/5" x 6-1/2" in diameter at widest point.
