Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 CE. A finely-preserved sewing basket of woven reeds with a gathering of various original weaving tools. Included in the basket are 10 wooden needles, some with painted motifs; 1 wooden needle with a small spool of thread; 1 wooden needle with a pottery spindle whorl; a cream-and-red textile pouch with tasseled ends; 2 small pottery jarlets; a fur-wrapped wooden flask; 2 bunches of brown thread wrapped with pink thread; a large bunch of cobalt-blue thread; and a large bunch of thread of different colors. Size (basket): 14.125" L x 4.6" W x 3.4" H (35.9 cm x 11.7 cm x 8.6 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection (collected before 1960), Germany.
