Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chancay, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A carved wooden standing male figure made from one piece with a typical mummy bundle face with incised diamond-shaped eyes, a straight protruding nose, incised smile, an abstract, angular body with arms held across the chest. Remains of red pigment still grace the face, and netted textile still adorns the lower section. The overall form of the head and body is characteristically abstract and pleasingly minimalist. Custom stand. Size: 15.25" H (38.7 cm); 15.625" H (39.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private John M. Beroud collection, Whittier, California, USA, acquired in 1968
