Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, Cupisnique phase, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An impressive orange and cream hued bichrome stirrup vessel depicting a water carrier figure, his arms extending upward to adjust his tumpline which secures his incised netted sack that is comprised of four, concave cross-hatched registers. The overall form of the vessel presents a lovely, almost egg-shaped globular silhouette with a tall stirrup spout extending above. A skillfully rendered effigy vessel with fabulous details including a fancy pectoral, slip-painted loin cloth, and incised fingers and toes, and an expressive visage. Just look at that wide-eyed smile. His happiness despite that heavy load is remarkable! Size: 6.25" W x 12" H (15.9 cm x 30.5 cm)
