Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Chavin, ca. 800 to 500 BCE. A hand-built pottery stirrup vessel depicting a portly figure seated upon the voluminous base. The figure holds both incised arms up towards the squat neck in a meditative manner while white pigment accentuates the headband and facial tattooing surrounding the puffy eyes, nose, and lips. A broad, stirrup-shaped handle arches out from behind the head and is topped with a wide spout bearing a thick rim. Size: 5" L x 4.9" W x 9.125" H (12.7 cm x 12.4 cm x 23.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
