Description:

Mexico, Chiapas / United States, ca. 21st century CE. A superb specimen of translucent golden amber, richly hued in fiery orange and honey tones, with natural inclusions suspended within its interior. This sizeable fragment has been skillfully polished to reveal its interior clarity and is presented on a custom display stand composed of walrus ivory whale-tail supports rising from a carved wooden base. Amber from Chiapas, formed from ancient tropical tree resin, is among the rarest and most highly prized fossil resins in the world, valued both for its geological significance and its luminous, gem-like beauty. Size: 2.3" Diameter x 1" W (5.8 cm x 2.5 cm); 4.35" H (11 cm) on included custom stand.

This item is made of or contains walrus ivory and is classified under the ESA (Endangered Species Act) as an exempt piece.   • Condition: Natural internal fissures and inclusions in the amber carving. Stable fissure across one whale, with a few minor abrasions to the high relief areas. Base has a loss to the underside of the wood, but that does not affect presentation or stability.
