Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A delightful blackware vessel that pays tribute to the most important domesticated crop of the ancient Americas, corn. The tall vessel's sides are studded with four corn cobs that serve as handles. A tall neck with a flared rim and narrow mouth completes the vessel. This vessel was likely made to hold a grave offering of a fermented corn beer known as chicha, an important ritual drink for the Chimu and other ancient Andeans. Size: 6.45" W x 8.75" H (16.4 cm x 22.2 cm)
