Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A lovely, mold-formed blackware vessel. The highly-burnished, flat-bottomed vessel has a rotund body with rounded shoulders, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a projecting cylindrical spout. Each side of the vessel is adorned with a low-relief scene of two llamas facing one another in a dance-like pose against a stippled field. Size: 5.5" W x 8.9" H (14 cm x 22.6 cm).

  • Condition: Stirrup handle and spout reattached to main body with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to base, body, handle, and spout, with fading to original glaze coloration in some areas, and softening to some raised details. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label on side of vessel.
